WHAT SHOULD DESIGNER BIKES BE ABLE TO DO?
If you are about to acquire a new, lovely designer bike, it is a good idea to research and do your homework first. Bikes are not just bikes, and that is especially true for designer bikes. There are several details you need to consider when choosing your next bike.
Choose a bike with minimal power loss = don't waste energy on the wrong things. It is important for a bike made of both light and stiff quality steel, as it ensures minimal power loss. In plain English, this means that the frame moves as little as possible under you, and that you therefore avoid the frame twisting when you cycle. This way, you don't use a lot of energy to twist the frame under you. Instead, you transfer the power directly to the pedals and out to the wheels. So you get maximum output with minimal input. This ensures more efficient riding. In our designer bikes, we have made the steel frame from robust HI TEN steel, which is light but still very stiff. We have also designed the bike with lugs and copper brazing in the joints to make the frame even stiffer - and to give you an optimal riding experience.
Consider which type of gear system you choose When choosing your next bike, you should also consider the gear system. It is a good idea to choose a gear system that you can adjust to be either lighter or heavier according to your needs. We generally recommend bikes with the leading brand in internal gear hubs: Shimano. In our bike shop, you can choose between the Shimano Nexus 1-speed gear system and Shimano Nexus 3-speed and 7-speed. The gear systems are light systems with a back pedal brake, which gives an easy "pedal". The biggest difference is that with the 1-speed system, you can transfer power more directly to the pedals. Get a comfortable bike ride – choose a saddle and bike that suits you Comfort on a bike is paramount.
You probably know the feeling of a sore backside after a slightly too long ride on a slightly too hard or too small saddle with poor suspension – or a sore back after a ride in an incorrect riding position. You should not underestimate the importance of being able to sit comfortably when you jump on your faithful transport companion. Therefore, you should of course choose a saddle and bike that suits you and your preferred riding position when you are looking for a designer bike. If you are looking for a comfortable saddle, we can especially recommend Brooks saddles.
The renowned brand Brooks makes saddles that adapt to your sitting style. See Brooks saddles and read more under the "saddles" category. The saddle alone cannot ensure comfort. The riding position is also definitely important. Therefore, consider which riding position suits you best. Are you most inclined to the slightly racing, bent-forward position? Or do you prefer to have a straight back when you ride? No matter what you prefer, you can safely choose a Saxil Cykler designer bike.
With our Vesterbro bike and Østerbro bike, you can sit in a comfortable, upright sitting position, while with our Nørrebro bike, you sit in a slightly more "racing" position – ready to get around quickly and at the front of the bike path.
Choose puncture-proof tires – so you don't have to walk your bike home There are many things that can make life difficult for cyclists. Pouring rain, stray tourists on bike paths or chains that jump off.
But a punctured tire is probably the most annoying – especially if you puncture far from your home and your repair kit or your local bike mechanic. Therefore, you can advantageously choose a bike with quality tires that do not puncture at the first and best encounter with a small stone or a shard of glass.
We can recommend choosing a bike with Kevlar tires, which are puncture-proof tires. We have used it on the Nørrebro, Vesterbro and Østerbro bikes.
And then there's the design… Design is a matter of taste. At Saxil Cykler, we have designed our three city bikes with great inspiration from the simple, simplistic aesthetic of the early 1900s.
